Dr Luiza Caramori

Luiza Caramori graduated top of her class in medical school at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil and completed a residency in internal medicine, followed by a clinical fellowship in paediatric and adult endocrinology. She then completed a MSc and subsequently obtained her PhD. Dr Caramori was a research and clinical fellow in paediatric nephrology (1998–2002) and endocrinology and diabetes (2004–2006) at the University of Minnesota, respectively.
She joined the faculty at the University of Minnesota in 2006 and is currently an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine. She joined the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in 2022 and she is Staff Physician at the Endocrinology and Metabolism Institute. Dr Caramori has authored numerous original manuscripts and book chapters, and has received multiple awards for her work in research and her post-doctoral fellowship.
She has been the principal investigator on NIH and JDRF awards and the centre principal investigator on a number of clinical trials in patients with diabetic kidney disease and other diabetes-related complications. Additionally, she is the past-Chair of the American Diabetes Association diabetic nephropathy subcommittee and a member of the Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) task force.
